Oh Bondage…

After much fretting and procrastination, I just glued the arched top onto Eileen’s baritone.

That’s Bea in the background looking for camel crickets.

I have never used rope as a clamp before but I really needed concentric pressure in this case. Old time luthiers used this method so I thought I would buy some good, old-fashioned, manilla rope for the job. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Oh – and about the title – I always loved the song “Oh Bondage Up Yours” by the X-Ray Spex from 1977.

“Some people say little girls should be seen and not heard,” Poly Styrene solemnly intones. … “But I think”—and then the voice suddenly rises to a scream—”OH BONDAGE UP YOURS! 1-2-3-4!”

Then the band kicks in with all the immediacy of a custard pie in the face. Fuzzy power chords and careening saxophone bleats fight it out with Styrene’s half-chanted, half-sung vocals, a mixture of glee and rage that periodically trails off into caterwauling shrieks.  – Ritchie Unterberger

Ahhh…. real, home-grown, punk rock. I rather miss it.
